Another Excerpt From my Upcoming Book: The Family Curse

“Hey Anya,” I mumble as I stalked passed her and I quickly slumped down on the beige recliner that my mother had purchased from Living Spaces. It was against her taste but she found it useful after a long day at work. “Hey Rita,” she said softly. “So, I’m the only one who was kept in the dark huh?” I so was not in the mood to deal with Anya’s feelings. “No Anya you and I both were in the dark about everything. I only learned of mother’s true identity but two days earlier than you and not from her. This weekend has been a weekend of revelations unfortunately and before you ask, no I did not know Nino was a vampire until recently. And it was not until the day before that that our mother went from a regular diminutive but successful real estate agent to freakin’ moon goddess. And oh, yeah I glow too…” I did not mean to come off as harshly as I did but what my mother had done was team too much. Not only had she withheld important family secrets but now she went after my fiancé like a deranged lunatic. Nino had done nothing to deserve that and just because her relationship with Ambrogio was not the fairytale ending that she had hoped it would be does not mean that she should talk to the man like he was dirt at the bottom of her shoe. Our relationship had seen better days as it was and it most definitely did not need this. Anya sat quietly, I suppose taking things in. Her bare intricately decorated feet tapped the floor anxiously while she smoothed her perfectly thick and flat ironed hair into a messy bun. “You glow?” she finally asked. “Like a goddamn night light,” and after those words left my mouth my skin began to illuminate a soft white glow instead of the mellow violet color. “And apparently I change colors too.”  Anya’s eyes widened and my Aunt Luna let out a low whistle. “Yup, you got the brunt of your mother’s gifts there,” she said brushing a stray hair from her heart shaped face. “And your mother’s moods too,” Aunt Brielle added.  “Anya has the gift of persuasion…just like the moon she has the ability to sway one’s emotions and moods into her favor. She also can control the tides and force the moon to reveal itself whenever the need arises. I am surprised she has not met a man with a little werewolf in him. They would  be the perfect match,” Luna smiled. “Did you find yourself having to deal with constant headaches?” I ask Anya who was just kind of sitting there like she was in a trance. And then I cannot believe that I had to ask my sister that. I should have already known the answer but instead I had to ask her as if she were some distant relative whose life I had to catch up on through small talk. I did not realize that until now. Perhaps we were both entirely too wrapped up in our own personal lives that we forgot to maintain our sisterly connection. “Yes. I had been dealing with migraines for years now and as of late they became more frequent. I thought something was seriously medically wrong with me because-“’It felt like your entire cranium was going to explode?” I said finishing her sentence like we used to always do. She smiled. “Yes! Girl, I thought I was going to die until Lucien” (her boyfriend) “took me to his mother’s and his grandmother gave this herbal tea that his family has used for generations to aid in ailments.” A strange thought popped into my head when she mentioned her boyfriend. I wondered if he was supernatural too. “Is he,” I began cautiously, “Uh…like Valentino?” “If you mean if he is supernatural,” my mother finally decided to chime in,” he is not vampire but he is something else. Or, OF something else. I believe his family is of the Fae.”  Fae? As in Tinkerbelle and Peter Pan? What the hell has this world come to? “A fairy.” I say plainly. “Well I’ll be damned…I attract vampires and my sister loves fairies.” “Don’t allow the title to fool you. The Fae are formidable by nature and once upon a time were great warriors. Now, their numbers have reduced so it is saddening.” “I did not know he was a fairy until he told me and when he did I thought he had smoked something he shouldn’t have.” Anya chuckled which made me smile. We really need to catch up.

Aunt Brielle slid over to one of the wooden barstools that my mother kept in a perfect line behind the counter. Even though there was not much distinction between my mom and her sisters, it was obvious Aunt Brielle was the wild one. She cut off all of her except for that in the middle and wore it hanging, flat ironed straight to the side as was the current hair trend. She had dyed the tips a radiant blue which went well with her creamy taupe skin tone that I am sure drove all of her suitors wild. Even as a ghost or apparition she looked much more alive than most of the human women I have seen strolling around here like they have permanent chip on their shoulders. Standing at 5’5’’ and a hundred or so pounds, and wearing one of those colorful strapless sundresses, Aunt Brielle was stunning and again I began to question if I myself was adopted.

Aunt Luna was no slouch either with her killer curvaceous body, thick dark hair that she kept in a single long braid and warm smile. From what I was told during my younger years she had caught the attention of not only professional men such as doctors and lawyers, but she had caught the eye of a few celebrity men who were more than happy to escort her live on the red carpet. Angelina Jolie would have not been the happily committed woman she is today had Aunt Luna decided not to go with her heart and accept Dr. Richard’s proposal. I’m just saying…Miss ‘Gelina needs to count her blessings. Unfortunately, the engagement to Dr. Richard did not last long due to my aunt’s current half state of vampirism, so the relationship could not work out. Dr. Richard was a prominent plastic surgeon back in the day when plastic surgery became the new thing and once he found out that blood had a little more meaning to Aunt Luna than donation purposes he was gone. At least, that is what I was told.

It had been years since I have seen Aunt Brielle and even longer since I have seen Aunt Luna. I might as well find it safe to assume that her diet may have had something to with it. We all just kind of sit there lost in our own thoughts for a minute. It was Anya who broke the silence. “So, what is going on with Aunt Minerva? None of us have seen her since God knows when and now all of a sudden things seem to be spiraling out of control.” I nod my head in agreement while my mother and her sisters glance at each other as if trying to figure out who is going to speak first. “Well, Minerva is an evil bitch,” Aunt Luna seethed. “Luna!” My mother and Aunt Brielle shouted in astonishment. I could not believe it either. Well tell us how you really feel Aunt Luna. “I am not going to beat around the bush with it nor am I going to continue to cover up the fact that Minerva is absolutely evil,” Aunt Luna said unapologetically. “I love my sister, but the person that we grew up with is gone-long gone. She is a dark witch and has been for centuries. She is the reason behind why I am living a half-life as a vampire, why Brielle is pretty much a ghost, and why your-“She turned to point at my mom who just stood there with a stone face, “daughters are in danger. The sad part is you may not have enough time to prepare them for what she may do next…” I got the impression there was more my aunt wanted to say but she thought it best to keep whatever it was to herself. “Rita, tell us everything Nino told you. I gave them the basic run down but I need for you to fill in the gaps.” My mom said pointedly. I sigh. None of this would be happening if this bull crap had been addressed long ago. But, I sit up straight and take a deep breath and begin. “Mom, Valentino is Ambrogio’s nephew. Valentino and his entire family were cursed with vampirism because of Aunt Minerva.” “WHAT?!” Aunt Luna was the one to shout now. She jumped up and sat on the arm of the recliner on which I sat and looked at me with so much disbelief I thought she believed I was lying. “What I say is true. The curse not only befell Ambrogio but on his immediate family: brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. I assume it was only the first generation that was affected.”  “That cannot be…” Aunt Brielle said, stunned. “I believe it,” my mother finally said, refocusing the attention back to herself. “Minerva was just as in love with Ambrogio as I was when we were working in the Temple of Artemis. She tried everything she could to break us up and she pursued him with relentlessness that in all of my years of existence have yet to see again. Sometime before Ambrogio befell the curse, I remember Artemis chastising her about practicing white and dark magic and told her that if she continued to do so she would banish her from her temples forever. But, what I believe what really sealed the nail on the coffin was when Minerva walked in on Ambrogio asking for my hand. She stormed off after swearing vengeance on both of us when Artemis reappeared and cast her out of her temple. A year or so later, Ambrogio was cursed and it was over a hundred years before Minerva and I had contact again. But I did not know that Ambrogio’s entire family suffered from it too…” “This makes me wonder if Valentino knew who you were the entire time Rita,” Aunt Brielle said looking at me with sympathy in her eyes. “He clearly knows or better yet, knew the history on our family prior to meeting you. He could have had an agenda all along.” “If he had an agenda then why would he tell me the history of my family instead of it coming from anyone of you?” I shot back. “He opened up and told me the truth of who and what he is while all three of you just sat there and allowed me to fall in love with a vampire. Suppose he did have less than honest intentions? Then what? You would be too late!”  My heart was pumping a thousand miles a minute I was so damn mad. How dare they? “Rita-“ Aunt Luna pleaded. “No, don’t Rita me!” I snapped, directing my glare to my mother whose eyes narrowed as if she was open to my challenge. “All three of you allowed Anya and I to walk around unaware of who and what we are without thinking that about the laws of attraction. Did you ever stop to think about the possibility of either one of us attracting another supernatural entity? I mean, with us being freakin’ demi gods and whatnot, did you honestly think that we would fall in love with normal humans? That there wasn’t a risk that something from another realm would be drawn to the powers in our veins?” It pissed me off even more that no one said one mumbling word. Not even my sister. So I continued with my rant. “And another thing: you allowed the very individual that we are running from to block our memories and our powers; allowed us to suffer through migraines so excruciating I thought I was having an aneurism for what? Suppose Nino did drain me dry upon the first encounter…What would you have done? Or what if Anya, met someone with evil intentions like Minerva, then what?” “Rita, we-“ Brielle tried to explain. “No,” I said, trembling with pure fury. The soft white glow that I emitted earlier had brightened tenfold which was an indicator I was losing it. “Rita, your light!” My mother shouted hysterically. “No mother,” my voice grew grave and ominous and echoed throughout the walls of the house. “You judged a man that has done nothing but protect me despite what he is. You have not even tried to get to know him. He sent me here to be with you to ensure my safety while he deals with his very dangerous, very blood thirsty, vampire family who would not have hesitated to feed from my veins just to get a taste of power. So, let’s make one thing clear: Valentino is not a threat. Minerva is. So, we are either going to discuss the next course of action on how to deal with her or I am going to go back to my big beautiful house in Malibu and figure stuff out on my own.”  The silence that permeated the room was as thick as a red brick house. Aunt Luna and Aunt Brielle looked away, reluctant to look me or Anya directly in the eyes. My mother, the great and all powerful Selene; Goddess of the Moonlight stared at me with tears threatening to break through the wall of carefully placed emotions. “Well I am sorry for only wanting to protect the only children that I was blessed to have,” her voice was barely a whisper, but it could still be heard with perfect clarity. “Excuse me for wanting to give my children a sense of normalcy that I no longer possessed and have not possessed since the day I set foot in the Temple of Artemis.”  Aunt Luna went to my mother with a gentle attempt to calm a growing storm. “Forgive me,” she said, her tone gaining strength with each syllable. ”Forgive me for protecting you with everything in me. Forgive me Rita…for wanting my daughters to know what it’s like to be human.” Well I will be…what could I say to that? I was angry. I felt betrayed. I was hurt. And confused. And incredibly drained. And afraid. And my mother was all of those things and then some. So were my aunts. If my Aunt Minerva was strong enough to give my mother, a goddess, pause, then there was something to think about. “I don’t want you to hate me Rita,” my mother said struggling to maintain her composure. “And, you are right. Valentino should not have been the one to tell you. I should have told you. I owe him a sincere apology, just as I owe you and Anya my apology. But right now, I have to go speak with Artemis…Until I return this house is under heavy guard. No one is to leave and no one is to enter.” And with that, my mother vanished into thin air. I did not know she could do that. The way that I felt, I did not know much of anything. I hoped that wherever Nino was, he was fairing much better than me.

Nubia Rising: Excerpt: Osiris

Nubia Rising: Excerpt: Osiris

Trenton could feel a dark presence moving about the shadows of the Osirian realms. Syrene was still unconscious and Durga was late. Really late. If he could pray, he was would have prayed that she wasn’t killed by one of those Destroyer pests and that Durga would wrap things up and come on. He could hear Syrene stirring behind him. Being who she was, he should have realized that the dark energy spell wasn’t going to hold her for long. And the ring in which he wore’s powers seemed to be waning. He knew he didn’t have much time. He could sense it. And then he heard a familiar voice. “Trenton!” Durga shrieked. “Where is Syrene? I have been waiting to sink my teeth into that bitch’s neck for centuries!” Trenton materialized out of the nothingness and stood in front of the she demon. “She is safely tucked away,” he replied. “Give me the ring,”Durga demanded. “And then what? You have told me nothing. Have the shields been dropped?” “I did my part!” Durga snapped. “But have the shield-“ Trenton’s calm voice was quickly interrupted when he heard the rumblings of a not so unfamiliar voice. Durga, aware of the presence, slowly began to back away from Trenton, as if anticipating an approaching nightmare. “You should have ran when you had the chance boy,” came the deep, husky sound of the approaching apparition. Trenton could feel his fading pulse quicken with fear, and for a second he was dizzy with adrenaline as he prepared to either take flight or put up a fight. The energy from the ring had all but gone and he wasn’t sure if he had enough power to effectively protect himself. Durga surely wasn’t going to waste energy protecting him, she had her own agenda. “Give me what does not belong to you,” said the voice coolly,” and I may allow you a quick and  merciful death, rather than a long and excruciatingly painful one” . Before Trenton could even think to react the ring dissipated from his finger, leaving the space on his finger as well as in the rest of his body feeling eerily empty. Out of the corner of his eye, he could see Durga standing a few more feet away from him, her body tense as a spring, and based off of her strained expression he could tell that she was debating on whether or not she should dematerialize. The entity must have sensed her dilemma too because he made a tisking sound before he slowly began to manifest right before their eyes. Six foot seven of dense muscle and brawn, dark, smooth mahogany  skin, perfectly thick lips atop a chiseled face, with a pair of abysmal ly dark eyes that glared back at them. Long Kemetian locks hung proudly to the tip of his waist. Osiris, Egyptian ruler of the Underworld: first great Pharaoh of Egypt; and the only god to cheat death. To his followers, he was the definition of resurrection, and a force to be feared. Trenton,  not sure what else to do, found himself on his knees. The nothingness beneath him became solid. The instance  his knees buckled and collapsed onto what he once felt as nothingness, sent a shot of pain throughout the course of his body. He grimaced, but remained just as he was on his knees, ready and willing to beg for his life.

It was a damn shame that his life had come to this. He thought he had figured out the entire game. Everything he did in life was planned to the “t”; even his hooking up with Jewel also known as Isis. He thought he knew everything there was to know about the supernatural, and how to control it, but instead, he was the one being controlled. This was not how things were supposed to turn out. He was supposed to be the reigning king of hip hop; he was the one that was supposed to be a part of the New World Order. He knew what it was like to have power; not just financial, or political but REAL power and all of it has slipped through his fingertips-literally. Now he was forced to beg for his life-well whatever life he had left-like a coward. Everything that he worked hard for, everything that he wanted, dreamed about, and possessed was gone. Especially Isis. “You dare cower before me and even in the threat of impeding death you still demonstrate desire for my wife?” Osiris seethed, his eyes  burning with such an intensity that the cavernous dimension that he was now trapped in began to tremble.  “You are nothing more than an imposter! How dare you assume yourself worthy to wear MY ring, to userp authority in MY realms and to BED MY WIFE!!!” Osiris roared “I ask for your for-“ Trenton stuttered. “SILENCE!!!”  Durga had remained quiet throughout the entire display. She was not sure what Osiris had in store for her but she was prepared to fight if she needed to.  She had no problems with challenging Isis but Osiris was something else. He had access to powers and realms that she could only imagine which would not make him simply a formidable opponent; but a lethal enemy.  As she was assessing whether or not it would be conducive to her survival to fight Osiris in his own realm Osiris glanced over in her direction and gave her a wicked, toothy grin. “You know Durga, for the offenses that you have committed are of a grave nature,” he began. “But there is a way for you to redeem yourself…” Durga’s eyes narrowed  at his last statement. “How so?”, she began. “You are a demon of death,” Osiris began, still looming over the still prostrate and  aging Trenton.  “You are not a death demon but a demon of Death. I admire all of your strengths and abilities and had it not been for you, my story of godhood would have meant nothing to human masses. However, despite the fact that my spirit has not been able to manifest into the physical world; that I have had to remain in a ghastly apparition type of state,  the only thing that I have been able to do to maintain my sanity was watch. And I have watched you Durga. I have watched seen every gory, sick and twisted detail and your absolute lust for the stench of death. But, I have also watched you  threaten my wife and even,” Osiris looked down at Trenton and growled with disgust,” made a deal with this worthless bag of humanity to steal my powers and harness the energies of Atlantis to yourself while claiming the life of that precious little Destroyer that is chained in one of my chambers.” Durga swallowed thickly and felt her muscles tighten as she prepared to spring. “I could imprison you here forever, you know?” Osiris quipped. “And with you trapped in my realms unable to satisfy your thirst for death and decay, humans would live forever? Even as their physical bodies deteriorate with sickness, age, or fatal injuries… I mean you  are the curse that was unleased after the Fall of Man are you not? So with you out of the picture…” “Alright!” Durga shouted. “What will you have me do?” “First, you will leave that Destroyer to me-“ “You have GOT to be FUCKING kidding me right now!” Durga snapped. “I have been WAITING for-“ “-She is of more use alive than dead. You clearly are unaware of her genealogy,” Osiris mused. “You will understand in time. Second I need for you to retrieve my body. That bitch Naomi, a descendant of my lands is responsible for my imprisonment here. She hid my decapitated body in what is known as the 16 Sisters in Mesopotamia, better known as Lebanon. But before you leave, kill this foolish man. He has defiled my realms, my ring and my wife. Put him out of his misery.” Durga smiled wickedly and took her time approaching the beyond terrified Trenton who tried to scramble away from both entities who glared on with sadistic satisfaction, but to no avail. With the ring now removed from his finger, his body was becoming weaker and weaker. His joints now ached from what might have been arthritis, his breathing was becoming labored and vision dimming. His hair was falling out strand by strand, until his hair line was now at the center of his head. Just as Durga inched her way over to him, he looked down at his wrinkling hands and hoped that at the rate that he was aging, that his heart would give out before she even landed her infamous death bite. She smiled at him, baring her elongated fangs and he got his wish: with eyes wide with shock and agony, his heart stopped, sending a massive explosion of pain from the center of his chest that radiated throughout the course of his body. His body began to tremble and twitch involuntarily and as his spirit finally left his body his final thought was: ”At least she didn’t get the ring.”

Osiris watched Durga tear the lifeless human’s body apart with her teeth and her eyes lit with seemingly orgasmic relief as she chewed through flesh and bone. It was interesting to witness a creature of such a ravenous and violent nature to indulge in fleshly greed even though her choice of appetizers was absolutely disgusting…at least to him. “I need for you to hurry up with that. The shields will only remain dropped for so long and I can feel my wife’s incantations pulling me out of this realm. I need for you to move quickly. We only have until sunrise before the spells wear off and there is no more Potential blood to open the door. I need my body back!!” Durga stopped what she was doing and gently wiped Trenton’s blood from her gruesome mouth before answering. “Your wife was so hell bent on the major details of this long awaited day that she forgot to obtain your body? How dreadful.” “She must have thought that the r eunification process would do it automatically…” “Or maybe she was more concerned with her own desires for power-“ “GO GET MY BODY YOU INSOLENT CREATURE OTHERWISE I SHALL MAKE GOOD ON MY PROMISE AND TRAP YOU IN HERE FOR ETERNITY!!!” Osiris bellowed, his voice echoing for what seemed like a millennia. Durga was not one to take orders but being locked in the Osirian realms for an eternity was not an option. She quickly dematerialized out of the nothingness and on the hunt for the 16 Sisters.images39L7LYPD imagesLN75GRZX

An Excerpt from Nubia Rising: The Awakening: Oblivion

Sitting on high in the second ring of Heaven, she sat and watched the very first Destroyer smile for the first time in ages as she met with the wise queen. And so everything was coming to pass…everything except for her purpose, whatever it may be. To be the only female angel out of a countless number of males wasn’t easy. She was treated as if she was a rare and sacred scroll; however, there was nothing about her that she deemed worthy enough for all of this care and concern. She wasn’t a warrior like Michael or a messenger like Gabriel, or a healer like Raphael. She wasn’t wise like Raziel and she definitely wasn’t blasphemous like the unnamed one. During the First War in Heaven, Michael secreted her away in the third ring and told her to stay there until those who did not belong were casted out. She was not allowed to enter the earth plane for no reason whatsoever; not even to help the poor helpless humans who called out to the heavens every second of every minute.

She had had many talks with Gabriel about her existence and how her lack of purpose made her feel useless; and the sequestering didn’t make it any easier. Gabriel was always patient with her and understood her plight, and he would remind her that just because her purpose had not been revealed to her did not mean she was without one. She wished that she was brave like Michael and thought that maybe if she were, she could go into the earth plane and prove her worth, but the thought of battle frightened her. The only thing her Father told her was that it was not time yet and to just keep watch over the humans and when the time came, He would let her know. Oblivion was her name, and Raziel, during one of his rare appearances told her she was one of the universe’s best kept secrets whatever that meant. He refused to elaborate and simply went on about his business in the higher rings of Heaven. Michael would just smile warmly at her before pointing something out in the earth realm that she should pay attention to and then disappearing.

So much had occurred since the Creation of Man and the Fall of Man and now that a destroyer was finally on the planet, Oblivion was excited to watch how this young woman’s life would play out. Those demon-gods were surely in for it, and the unnamed one and his minions would be busy trying to come up with a counter attack. Mankind had already been plagued with physical diseases and illnesses, and a variety of spiritual attacks but with the gods’ ability to attack humans both physically and spiritually in a tangible way brought tears to her silver irises. Supernatural abominations were beginning to manifest into existence and wicked humans were tapping into spiritual realms that only the most brave and strong warrior angels could venture into. Everything was out of balance, but somehow that was a part of the Divine Plan.

She stood to her full ten foot height and stretched out her silver magnificent wings. She thought about her fallen brothers, not those who are now in league with the unnamed one but those that have taken refuge beneath the waters to avoid the final transformation from a heavenly being into a demon of darkness. She could feel the pain that they endured and hoped that their Father would forgive them. Unfortunately, all heavenly beings knew that once one fell from Grace there was no coming back. Ever. But, those that have decided to remain steadfast despite knowing the ramifications of their actions still held on to something that angels such as Gabriel and Raphael worked hard to restore on the earth plane: hope.

As Oblivion stood there in the ethereal planes, completely lost in her thoughts, one of the Seraphim, the most highly ranked of their kind approached her. Their light, being that they serviced the Most High directly was so bright that whenever they made appearances, they displayed themselves as nothing more than a glowing orb, because even another angel could not tolerate their normal presence. The Seraphim glimmered down to where she was faced to face with it; and in its voice which sounded like a thousand voices at once spoke to her with growing excitement. “It is almost time for your destiny to be fulfilled dearest one,” it said to her, its voice ominous with the sound of many. “You have been kept safe here in the Heavens, barred from the earth realm with good reason. The Most High says that it is time for you to know the truth of who you are…”the Seraphim continued. “And what may that be?” Oblivion asked, confused and extremely intrigued and excited. In all of her millennia of existence, she was finally being called to action; to be of service, to be something more than just…her. “You are very special my dear and the Most High kept you heavily guarded for knowledge that had your existence been discovered before its time, the balance of Light would have been tipped to favor that of the darkness.” “But Seraphim,” Oblivion began, her silver eyes filling with silver tears. “How am I special? I am not brave like Michael, nor do I have special healing abilities like Raphael, and-““Ssssshhhhh, dear one you must not speak that way, especially given who you are. Everyone’s role is important and highly valued by The Most High; but He has made you in a way like no other. You are what your name says you are: Oblivion.” “And what does that mean?” The Seraphim at first said nothing. It appeared to be frustrated with her lack of understanding and self-doubt. “You, along with the Destroyers are the Unnamed One’s worst nightmare. Inside you lies the power to destroy the immortal. Just as the sun rises to face the shadows in the east, Michael will escort you through Orion’s belt. There you will collect star that shines the brightest and cast yourself into it. Michael, then will from that star make the greatest sword known to the histories of creation and will then hand you, as the sword to the Destroyer, and you and she will do great things.” The Seraphim was so excited about her fate and its role in delivering the message that it was beginning to burn so brightly, Oblivion had to cover her face. “So I will become a sword…”she said flatly. “Ah yes,” the Seraphim continued to burn. “A living sword. You are a weapon. Your very design is to destroy darkness. No harm will come to you, but you my dear will smite all that come against the Destroyer.” “And what would happen should I fall into the wrong hands?” Oblivion asked softly. “Do not fret. The entire company of Heaven would come for you if that were to happen, but that will not come to pass. When not in the Destroyer’s possession you will remain invisible to the human world. Darkness will always be able to sense your presence because of the unnamed one’s genealogy, however, you cannot be destroyed. When on earth you will not be able to reveal your true self; only the Destroyer will know just what you are. You will be able to communicate with her and when she needs you, she will summon you. However, I must warn you Oblivion, while in the earth plane, you will be able to sense your fallen brethren-those that reside in the lost pyramid of Atlantis and by Heavenly Edict you are NOT to communicate with them whatsoever. Their verdict is still in question. Are we clear?” Oblivion nodded her head and with that the jovial Seraphim was gone.

Oblivion stood there, too many emotions she wasn’t used to flowed through her ethereal body like electricity. She was excited, frightened, confused, sad, and a number of other things, all at once. Time moved differently in Heaven than it did on earth; so she wasn’t sure exactly when Michael was coming for her, so she unfolded her silver feathered wings with a wingspan of 10 feet and stretched them out. Perhaps she and the Destroyer could be good friends…Friends. That was something she had always wanted to experience. Michael, Gabriel, Zadkiel…they were not her friends, though she loved them dearly. They were her brothers and her protectors. Maybe she and the Destroyer could talk about things, other than Heavenly affairs; things like their favorite colors and sounds and what they liked most about the earth. Maybe she could teach her things about the earth and what it’s like to be what she is…or maybe she could just be that friend that gives good advice. Oblivion smiled at the thought. She couldn’t wait for her favorite Archangel to return. She was finally needed.

Chapter 5

I awoke to the gentle sound of an A.C., while draped in the soft cushiony warmth of blue and black comforter. I sat up to witness the low light of a fire crackling in a fireplace. Nino was dressed in a pair of black pajama pants and nothing else while sitting across from me on a leather love seat. He smiled sheepishly at me as the realization of what transpired hit me like a ton of bricks. There are no words to describe my humiliation. “You had me worried for a second,” he said as he got up to approach the bed. “This is sooo embarrassing.” I say as I bury my face in the pillow. “No, it’s not. That was…” “It was what?”  “Intense. I didn’t know that you could do that. I always knew my love making skills were top notch, but you took both us to new heights.” Whatchoo talkin’ bout Willis? “Huh?” I remove my face from the pillow to face him. “You basically dematerialized both of us and then rematerialized us as you climaxed. In all of my years I have never experienced anything like that. It was terrifyingly exhilarating. And in the process you were glowing so brightly I wasn’t sure if you were literally going to combust.” “But I passed out.” “Yes, but not before you did all that and then some…and I have always managed to control myself with you but sweetheart you caused me to drop fang do something that I said I would never do…” “You bit me,” I sat up, still covering myself with the blankets having realized that I am still naked. “But, it’s alright…I’m ok. Really.” I place my hand on the spot where he bit me and I could feel the puncture wounds. It felt awesome at the time when he did it, but now I can feel it. It was sore as hell and slightly swollen. “I am immune so don’t worry. I kind of forced you to.” He shook his head. “I don’t know what the consequences are for that…I mean I feel different, but in a good way. I feel stronger and reenergized. But I will not take from you like that again. You have my word.” “Nino, I am fine. I can cover it with a band aid and some make up. And besides, I wanted it just as much as you…” I kiss his cheek. “So, where am I?”  In your new home.” Nino smiled at me sheepishly. Did he just say what I think he just said? “Uh, what?”  “A man tells his woman that she is in her new house and you have nothing to say?” I don’t know if that was a statement of pure sarcasm or if he felt a little disappointed in my lack of response or a combination of both. I needed a second to take everything in. Before our cosmic love making session on the beach he told me that he was giving me a house; and before I became a walking glow stick in the restaurant he gave me his heart. I gently reach over and touch that smooth, cleanly shaven, olive skin of his and place my lips gently on his. There are no words to describe how much I love this man-how much I need him. He returns what I offer but with much more intensity and that fire that I always keep on a slow burn ignites once again into a raging flame. He yanks the covers off of me exposing my naked, brown skin and I desperately want him to cover me with his. His body is built like a tightly coiled spring: lean and full of power.  Our bodies intertwine and he nuzzles the other side of my neck indicating that he wants more…he wants in…But then he kisses my shoulder and in an instant is off of me and slipping on a pair of grey sweats while at the same time giving me a lopsided grin. His sweats do little to cover a massive erection and I tremble at the thought of all the things I could do to it; and it to me. “Why must you do this to me babe?” I whine as a drape the comforter back over my body. “Because I really want you to see the interior of the house…” Before I could even blink he disappears through a pair of French doors and reemerges with a short, silk black robe and holds it out for me to see. “Here,” he says. “Put this on. I will have to eh…replace the clothes that you had on earlier today. We had to leave in a bit of a hurry.” He chuckles while he hands me the robe and I clumsily slip it on. I don’t even bother acknowledge his amusement because it is too embarrassing to think about.

Taking my hand he leads the way down a corridor which then leads to one of those Gone with the Wind type of staircases. Everything about the house was modern; the décor was of course a black and white theme with accents of red and gold dispersed sporadically in various paintings, vases, and other odds and ends that bring out the character of the house. The house was small compared to the monoliths and overpriced mansions that the ridiculously wealthy loved to splurge their abundance of riches on. But nonetheless, I love it. I love every inch; every nook and cranny; every centimeter of the four bedroom two story house that now belonged to me. The kitchen is a professional chef’s dream, with a state of the art oven and stove, a fridge cold enough to freeze over Antarctica and wide enough to store food for several winters. My mother would lose her ever lovin’ goddess mind if she ever stepped foot in here. I myself am not much of a cook but my dear mother can throw down in the kitchen. I would love for her to see it. I think if she saw how much Nino loves me and what he is willing to do for me, she will love him as much as I do. But, I cannot think about that now.

All I can think about is how fabulously well -furnished each room is; how carefully decorated; and my favorite room in the house is the last bedroom which happened to be turned into a mini library. Nino is the only man I have ever dated who appreciates my love of books. Since the day that I met him he has kept me well stocked with my favorite authors while at the same time introducing me to new ones. And, now here I stand in a room filled with bookshelves, and queen sized bed with several hefty pillows stacked on top of it, and placed smack dab in the center of it all. And when Nino drew back the sun colored drapes and allowed the last few rays of the sun soak up the room, the visual itself was an offering of complete serenity. Instinctively I wrap myself into Nino’s already welcoming embrace and we stand that way for what should have been an eternity.

Once the sun is set and it is the stars’ turn to light the sky Nino asks,” Will you accept?” “Do you really have to ask?” I smile. “Hell yeah I accept! What woman would not?” “Then will you at least move in with me? I want you with me all the time and I hate dropping you off to be alone in-don’t take this personal- that tiny apartment of yours.” “Hey,” I gently poke him in his ribcage. “That is still my apartment you know…” Feigning annoyance I pull away from him and turn around with my back to him. “I don’t know…” “What? Why?” Nino stuttered. “It is just that I like my tiny apartment…and then there is my job. Nino, what you are asking is to give up the little that I worked hard for. What I have is mine. I don’t know what the future holds-“ “ I will give anything to have you with me when the sun rises and when the sun sets Rita,” Nino says as he wraps his arms around my waist from behind. “I have waited for a woman like you for hundreds of years and I refuse to live another second with her living alone without me. The house is in your name so you can do what you want with it at your will. I will never override your need for independence. But, if I am willing to give you and have given you everything a man could give to a woman he needs as much as his own breath, all I ask is one simple request: say yes.” For the first time in my 28 years of existence, instead of listening to the screaming voices in my head offering me valid reasons why I should say no; I go with the beating voice in my heart… I say: ”Yes Nino. Yes. Should I call my job and quit over the phone or give them a two week resignation notice?” He unties the black robe and watches it as it slides from my shoulders and onto the floor and stares at me greedily. I want to be devoured.  So, I take it that the answer to my question is a very loud no. I won’t need any make-up for tomorrow

You Dont Know How Much You Dont Know Until You Have to Write About it

black moonOk, so now that I am working on the sequel to Nubia Rising: The Awakening, one of my characters is King Arthur’s daughter. That is what popped in my head at the last minute as I was putting together the character descriptions prior to NR’s release. It sounded like a great idea to make the red headed Celtic warrior who happens to not only be a witch hunter; but whose name is Sage… Is that a little stereotypical or ironic? Or both? I’m going with both but you must forgive me for actually liking the name Sage. It just sounds so…mythical and mystical and…MAGICAL. Anyhow, she is the daughter of the Great King Arthur: a man who only brings to mind the Knights of the Round Table and Merlin. So I guess I should hit the books AGAIN. I need to know as much as I can about King Arthur and Merlin…oh yeah and Stonehenge. Is there a relation between the three? History Channel, and the American Heroes Channel it is. Barnes and Noble here I come. King Arthur and I are about to become very well acquainted.

About Nubia Rising…

The Destroyers are a group of specially and specifically designed, earth bound heaven warriors that are “called” to restore the world back to its natural balance of light and to prepare the way for the Second Coming of Christ. There are five of them and they fight according to the category or skill set that they possess. Kitara, the last living descendant of Atlantis, is a god slayer. She fights immortals that dare to challenge the throne of the Almighty, and she is the unspoken leader of the Destroyers. Isis, Egyptian goddess of magic, wife and sister of Egypt’s first Pharaoh and Lord of the Underworld (Osiris); she has one single mission: to resurrect her fallen love and to bring back the power and glory of godhood that she once had. After positioning herself as the reigning “queen” of the music industry and taking on the undisputed “King of Hip Hop” as her consort, Isis is one step closer to accomplishing her goal of becoming Queen of the gods. Her only obstacle is acquiring a Potential (a human with the potential of becoming a Destroyer due to special gifts that are hidden in their DNA). Reunited with her closest friends, and with the help of her very special “sword”, Kitara must realize her unlimited potential to finish what was started centuries ago.

The Begining: The Annunaki and the Legend of the Destroyers

Part I

The Beginning-The Annunaki and the Legend of the Destroyers

“All shall be afraid, and the Watchers be terrified.” The Book of Enoch 1:5

Eons ago, when the earth was new, perhaps many a generation after the fall of Adam and Eve, a large group of Celestial beings; or simply putspirits of a higher realm” descended from the Heavens in hopes of living on the earth plane among humans. However, after Adam’s fall from Grace, humans became viciously carnal and cruel and it appeared to the newly arrived visitors (whom were later identified by the Babylonians as Annunaki) that they were abandoned by the Creator. In truth, the Creator did not abandon the human race; he was saddened by all that had transpired between them and the evil Serpent whom had taken control over the earth and leaving humans to his mercy. Disturbed and disheartened by the chaotic and unpleasant nature of the earth beings, in an attempt to return earth to its natural order, the Annunaki used the four elements of nature and bound it to the spirits of men; gods of an almost infinite variation-gods of fire, gods of dream, gods of death and destruction, chaos, love, the sky- were created. Shortly thereafter, the Annunaki enlisted the help of humans to build a great city which is known today as Atlantis. This great city was to be a Mecca for other Annunaki who had yet to descend. However, the longer the Annunaki remained on the earth plane, the more sinful and vain they became. They began to indulge in pleasures of the flesh and began to mix with both human men and women. They soon claimed the credit of creating mankind, and forced the humans to build temples of worship for them and for the gods they created. In response to not only the behavior of the humans and the idolatry but to the blasphemous teachings of the Annunaki, God swept the earth with a great flood killing every living thing, except for whom the Bible spoke of in the Book of Genesis: Noah and those that were protected in the Ark. Atlantis was gone. Saddened and incredibly humbled, the Annunaki, the Fallen Angels as they are now known decided that it was time to depart but they were not allowed to return to the Heavens-at least not until they put right all that they have done, including creating the deities who had already begun to wreak havoc on mankind. Unfortunately, the Fallen Ones were now forever divided, many of them taking refuge under the wicked wings of the Serpent with a promise to rule over mankind. There were only six out of the thirteen fallen angels that had originally descended that remained steadfast to their vow of restoring the balance of nature, and overtime,  these Annunaki scoured the earth searching for humans would later on become slayers who would top ALL slayers: Destroyers.

“I will help you if you help me…I need the key…” He released her and watched her as she stumbled forward gasping for breath. “What key?” He demanded. “You know me Osiris. I am a descendant of the Angel of Death and a former High Summoner Priestess. I need Oblivion, the sword is the Key to the Garden of Eden,” she coughed. “In the Garden of Eden  is a weapon, a weapon so powerful that the reason why it is called a weapon is because it can turn back time.” “How do you know this?” Osiris inquired. “Because I have seen it; I have touched  it…if I can access this weapon you can get your wife back.” “And what will you get from it?” Kalima stopped coughing long enough to smooth her hair out before answering. “I get my life back. Do we have a deal?” She extended her hand  for him to accept her bargain, and without thinking, he accepted. “Now, tell me more,” Osiris began, “ about how I can exact my revenge on those…Destroyers.”- Kalima and OsirisimagesF55ANN8N Isis and osiris
